Beulah's story:

Beulah is a 48 year-old SOMA resident who found SMHC when she was homeless and battling addiction. She has been off drugs for over five years and is treated at the clinic for a variety of health problems.

When asked about the clinic, Beulah says, “I’m glad I’ve got the doctor here. He’s nosy. He knows everything about his patients. Having a nosy doctor, I got the help I needed. He helps me a lot and I get extra attention with other problems. And he really helped me with my benefits.”

Beulah likes to share her story and inspire others with similar problems. She also likes to stay home and listen to music. Beulah explains, “I like to stay home because I was on the streets for so long.”

With the help that she is now receiving, Beulah is trying to get into school with the goal of opening her own business. And as a mother of two grown children, she also wants to be a foster parent. Beulah adds, “I just want to get some of these drug babies and kids that aren’t wanted anymore. That’s my dream. I have a judge and others writing letters for me so I can get my record expunged. I haven’t had any legal problems in seven years. I’m serious about life. I’m doing great.”

Meet Delia:
“It’s great here at the clinic. I like it here. The nurses are nice. If I’m sick, I’ll come here. Or if my foot hurts. I come here for everything.”

Meet Robert:
“Some clinics I’ve been to, they just give you your medication and that’s it. They don’t want to talk or discuss anything. That’s why I come back to this clinic.”

Meet Beulah:
“I didn’t know how important it was to take my medication. I used to skip it. If it wasn’t for my nosy doctor, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Meet Bruce:
“I really can’t see going anywhere else. I have history with this place. Going somewhere else would be like creating a whole new family.”
